Artist Bio

Michael Guevara is a contemporary abstract artist born in 2005 based in Miami, Florida. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, He creates paintings that explore the relationship between color, texture, and movement. His work is defined by expressive brushwork, layered surfaces and a physical approach to painting that embraces spontaneity and raw emotion.

Influenced by the world around him and the feeling that go on beneath the surface, Guevara approaches each painting as a bearing of his soul. Using color and composition to express emotion and feeling. He is also deeply invested in giving back to the community giving away pieces for free every week on his Instagram (@freeartfriday_miami).

Artist Statement

Painting is what brings me the most joy in my life.

Every canvas is an opportunity for me to explore color texture and movement. Most of the time I approach my paintings with no finished idea in my head I just let the painting reveal itself to me in the textures and colors on the canvas. When I paint I really lose myself in the process and by the time I’m finished it looks like a paint bomb went off in my studio.

My works end up being influenced by my emotions and feelings through color, texture and subject instead of through words. I like to invite the viewers to experience my paintings standing as close as possible so that you can really get lost in the layers and textures.

Above all I want my paintings to remind people that creativity is something that everyone has inherently and that art is everywhere. When I paint I like to invite my friends to come by and paint with me so that they can engage with the arts.
